Houston, we have a problem and WALE was the answer. Houston was yearning for something different. Hailing from DC, the ROC-NATION artist had a big buzz in the underground world. But with little commercial footprints of his own and just one single on radio’s rotation, he was still a gamble in the southern market. A well calculated gamble, this turned out to be for GRINDALIVE’s executive. With the help of a few of the top Houston urban promoters, the show was sold out on the day off. The event turned out to be Wale’s first sold out show in the south. Thus, broadening his audience, most of which came out to see what the buzz was all about.
Houston top artists such as bun b, slim thug, and trae the truth, came to show support for the young artist as he performed his hit song “no hands” to a mob of screaming fans and enthusiasts alike. You know a show is big when you have to turn away more people than you can let in.LIL DUVAL

GrindAlive exhibits its readiness to expand away from just promoting musical concerts by organizing its first comedy show. Laugh out loud comedy show headlined by Atlanta native “LIL DUVAL” was an instant hit. What better day to have a family oriented event than on thanksgiving night. Stereo live was a perfect venue, and it provided the much needed ambiance for such an occasion. Houston’s own up and coming comic ken2thefool almost made it his own show with original but well crafted materials, receiving deserving accolades before lil duval took the stage. Lil duval was quick to make people with a few friendly jabs at the promoters. He showed us why he is the social network phenomena that he is, earning him a few new followers on twitter after such impressive performance. In a city filled with sub-par events, this was a much welcomed affair brought to you by yours truly.

History repeated itself on a Sunday evening, at the House of Blues. Barely one month has passed since the powerful combination of Stanley Egbo, Richard Otubusin, and Joseph Clarke, also known as GrindAlive organized a sold out WALE show. GrindAlive hosted R&B legend Myron Avant, known as AVANT, on a night that was suited for nothing less, on valentine’s eve. Having a pre-sale of over 1000 tickets even before the door opened at 7pm, the show was a guaranteed hit. A long queue of restless ticket buyers rapidly wrapped around the colossal building. GrindAlive has a reputation of not just having sold-out shows but having quality shows and you can sense the high expectation in the air amongst anxious loyal followers. The show began exactly at 7:35pm. Houston local, ANZEO, who has appeared on American Idol and was also a finalist on MTV’s making the band, got on stage and immediately got the crowd cheering. We were all in for a surprise when a young man got on stage shortly after Anzeo’s act to propose to his future fiancée. I bet all the married men in the building wished they had thought of that. It was time for Prairie view’s local champion PHILL WADE, to dazzle the crowd. He wasted no time showing why he is fast becoming a musical force and Houston’s favorite upcoming R&B Artist. Anticipation grew amongst the crowd and loud chants of avant were heard in different parts of the concert music hall. DJ Youngstreetz was able to keep them at ease with his artistically orchestrated mixes. He definitely had people on their feet.
“This is moment we have all been waiting for, ladies, fellas, please join me in welcoming to the stage, r&b legend, AVANT!!!” Anzeo yelled. AVANT got on stage to one of his most popular his singles “Making good love”, electrifying the crowd almost instantaneously. 45 minutes later, the AVANT still had everyone on their feet dancing and singing his lyrics. He was nice enough to stay and take pictures with all his fans afterwards. Everybody had fun at the show and didn’t want to go home just yet. When one of the GrindAlive executives was asked if there was an after party for the event, he responded “We are a concert promotion company, we leave the smaller events for the others”. It was a good show all in all, nice crowd, quality opening acts, solid performance from AVANT himself. Which leads me to one question, when is the next GRINDALIVE event?
